Software

We have experience with a number of different software packages and codes, some of which are highlighted on the sidebar. Expertise is centred mainly around the ANSYS fluid dynamics software packages (ICEM, CFX and Fluent).

Work has also been performed with finite element analysis packages such as Abaqus (using the CAE interface), NASTRAN (using the PATRAN interface) and ANSYS. We have also performed modelling tasks on the distortion of composite components using Convergent COMPRO.

The image below is of a generic turbofan engine modelled in CFX as part of a PhD study into use of a variable bypass nozzle area to optimise the bypass cycle of a low pressure ratio fan in cruise and take-off to reduce acoustic signature. Additional thrust benefits are also attainable depending on relative fan performance at the take-off, climb and cruise portions of flight.
